There are plenty of good attitudes to be found among teenagers today, but the one Beaver Lady Duster Sarah Brashears has is remarkable, especially for a sophomore. Brashears said when it comes to youth on the court, it’s not something she has to think about. 

“The upperclassmen have really taken away the role of age this year,” Brashears said. “Every girl that steps on the court is a Lady Duster. They don’t point out our age or how well we play. They blend the team and lead us to be one. I haven’t ever paid attention to my age, I just go out and play. To me, it’s not about how good I am at a certain time, but what I make of the time I have.”

“But like I said, they push us to be our best and lead the team to be the best possible team we can be,” she continued. “They always show up with positive attitudes and really go to work.” 

The Lady Duster basketball season is off to a good start, Brashears said. 

“Every day at practice we focus on working to get better, and there is always room for improvement,” she said. “We have played three games so far, and we have two wins. My team is always excited to get better and go to work. There isn’t a day that passes that I question if we are ready to play. We pick each other up, push each other to the max, and support each other through every game.” 

Brashears said basketball was a game she fell in love with immediately. 

“I knew it was my thing the moment I picked up a ball,” she said. “The family I’ve gained while playing has been amazing. Especially my team this year. When I’m on the court, everything fades away and I’m just making memories with my family. My teammates always have my back, and we play to represent our school and our community.”
