Burlington’s Kayli Stewart – FFA Spotlight – Presented By Farm Credit Western Oklahoma

Burlington High School senior Kayli Stewart is entering her final year on the Elks hardwood, and she said she’s focusing just as much on being a leader for those who come after as she is on being a good athlete.

“Being a leader on the team is a role I transitioned into a senior, and a role that I grew up watching girls older than me take on as well,” Stewart said. “Watching them hold that position as a leader and learning from them has helped me become the leader I want to be. I’m so appreciative of this role I’ve gotten to take on, and the many opportunities it provides for me to serve those around me and be a good influence. I try and help out by leading through example and encouraging them on the court.”

And while Stewart admits being a leader is a great thing to focus on, she also has several other athletic-based goals she wants to focus on this season.

“This season has started with more difficulty than we expected,” she said. “But positive changes are being established. Our record right now is 1-4, and the team is excited to be playing this year, and staying positive so we can achieve success.”

“My goals individually for this season are to increase my shooting percentage, be more vocal on the court, and be a good role model on and off the court,” she continued. “Our team goals include always having a competitive attitude, improving each individual players’ skills, and conditioning.”

In her free time, Stewart said she enjoys arts and crafts, singing, culinary arts, going to the beach and spending time with animals. After high school, she wants to attend a local university and major in pre-vet medicine.

“I would also like to shout out my family and the Burlington community for always supporting me,” she said.
