Woodward Football Preview: Defense – Presented by AAA Insurance

Head coach – Rick Luetjen

2021: 3-7

As the Boomers enter a new classification and take on a new batch of opponents, their defense will also have to be ready for some things they may not have seen before. They will work to try to mix up their coverage to keep the opponent guessing, keep the passing game underneath them, and not give up the big plays. Looking to cause problems for the opponents will be the big guys on the defensive line. Ethan Matt (5-8, 220, Sr.) will be at nose guard, while Corral will play defensive tackle, and Harrison will be the defensive end. Middle linebacker Kasen Boren (6-0, 210, So.) will take care of things in the middle, working to keep running back at bay. In the secondary, cornerback Lucas Shirkey (6-1, 175, Sr.) and free safety Laird will work to keep the deep plays to a minimum. Assistant coaches this season will be Shane Pinckard, Zach Warner, Cody Whatley, Kyle Shryock, and Tyler Sheppard.
