OFFENSE

Entering his third season leading his alma mater, Caleb Howell says he is expecting his Tigers to compete with everyone on their schedule. Offensively, Howell will use a one back offense as their base. Howell wants to keep things as simple as possible for his players so they can move fast, execute, and wear down defenses. Leading the offensive attack is VYPE Top 100 quarterback Luke Swartwood (5-10, 160, Jr.). Last season, Swartwood did a little bit of everything for the Tigers. He recorded over 1,400 yards and 11 touchdowns through the air, over 700 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground, and had over 500 yards and three touchdowns in the return game. Howell says expectations for Swartwood are very high and the Canton coaches are looking forward to a great season from him. Swartwood will have several weapons to work with on offense. Hudsen Scott (6-0, 180, Sr.) is a wide receiver that is capable of big games. He had 621 yards and four touchdowns last year, including a school record 301 yards in a single game. In the backfield running back Brandon Day (5-10, 190, Sr.) and fullback Connor Cox (6-0, 195, Sr.) will lead the rushing attack. Up front, guard Will Blood (5-10, 185, Sr.) and guard/center Jacob Rutz (5-10, 225, Sr.) will anchor the Canton offensive line.

DEFENSE

Like the offense, the Canton defense is also retuning several starters. The Tigers will use a 3-2 base defense. Again, like the offense, Howell wants to keep the defense simple so the Tigers can execute at a high level, be aggressive, and attack the weak points of the opposing offense. Several guys will be playing both ways for Canton. Swartwood will play both corner and safety for the Tigers. Scott will also be in the defensive backfield for Canton Joining Swartwood and Scott in the defensive backfield is William McIntosh (6-0, 165, Sr.). Blood will anchor the linebacker position for the Tigers and Cox will be one of the two defensive ends. The other Canton defensive end is Luke Foster (6-3, 205, Sr.). Howell says Foster is a multisport athlete that just loves to compete for Canton. One underclassman Howell is expecting big things from is JJ Ibarra (So.). Howell says the Canton coaches are expecting Ibarra to possibly fill multiple roles for the Tigers and compete for a starting spot. Assisting Howell this year are David Smith and Matt Schieffer.
