OFFENSE

The defending Class B champions are back, and they are a nightmare to face thanks to the return of Felix Teal (5-9, 172, So.) at quarterback. This kid has all the tools to run a pro-style offense. Teal scored 12 touchdowns in the playoffs including three in the semifinals and three in the finals. Teal can play multiple positions and will use his speed and ath- leticism to create oppor- tunities for success on the offense. Tight end Tayte Dome (6-2, 215, Jr.) is a big target in the passing game, but he can also deliver devastating blocks in the run game. Same goes for Kaiden Knight (5-10, 177, Sr.) at guard. Knight is a quick guard who seeks out linebackers like a metal detector looking for a quarter. Look for this offense to control the clock and pop big plays when they feel the time is right.

DEFENSE

Dome is one of the keys on defense for Laverne. He will start at linebacker in the 3-2 scheme giving coach Cox a sound, gap control player in the middle. Carson Lovell (5-7, 125, Sr.) starts at corner with Teal playing safety. The secondary will be tough this season, but they will need someone to step up at the other corner spot. Knight will slide to defensive end giving the defense someone who can pressure off the edge. “We play a fundamentally sound defense based on gap responsibility and the elimination of big plays from opposing offenses. We try to swarm to the ball, tackle well, and punish the other team with relentless physical- ity,” said coach Cox. Last season’s state title was the schools fourth in football. The previous titles came in 2012, 2013 and 2016.
