Waynoka’s Hunter Durkee – Presented by Northwest Technology Center

There are a lot of options for students once they graduate from high school. Some may choose to attend a college or university, while others may choose to enter the workforce immediately or something else. There is also an option open to students while they are still in high school and Hunter Durkee is taking advantage of that.

“I attend the Northwest Tech Center in Alva,” he said. “I am in the Digital Design program and I really enjoy it. The teacher in this class is amazing and speaking to her during the tours made me interested. I’ve always wanted to try photoshop and design things a shot.”

Durkee first heard about the tech center during a tour and says he has learned so much that he can carry it with him after he is done.

“I attend Waynoka High School and they have taken us on a tour of Northwest Tech,” he recalled. “It allowed us to learn more about the programs that are offered. I have learned so many skills that I can use in design as well as help me meet people that I could help in the future.”

With the great experience that he has had as a student at Northwest Tech, Hunter says that anyone that he would highly recommend it to anyone that is considering it.

“If you are interested, definitely give it a shot,” he stated. “The environment is laid back, the people are great, and the staff is dedicated to making everything at the tech amazing.”

Hunter, who is a junior, is also involved at Waynoka. He is a member of the basketball, football, baseball, and track teams. He is also a member of the Future Farmers of America, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Superintendent’s Leadership Class.

Throughout his life, Durkee has had people that have served as role models for him and he says that he would not be where he is today without them.

“My family has always been people that I have looked up to,” he said. “They are always supporting me. Also, my Ag teacher has been impactful to my life.”
