Bridget Himes
Okarche High School
Okarche High School junior Bridget Himes is a member of student council, National Honor Society, Beta Club, yearbook staff, FCCLA and she serves as a student trainer. Himes also finds time for one of her favorite activities, FFA.
“I joined FFA when I was a freshman. My first competition I competed in was Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Riding on the long car rides to different contests with my team helped me to get to know the other girls on my team which was nice because I was at a new school,” said Himes. “My dad encouraged me and my best friend to get involved with FFA. He was in FFA and so were most of my brothers.”
Himes is serving as Vice President of the Okarche FFA chapter.
“I also am on the animal science Quizbowl Team, the Marketing Team, and I do prepared public speaking,” said Himes. “I enjoy getting to travel around Oklahoma and meet new people at competitions.”
At one time, Himes showed animals, but she has decided to move on to other opportunities within FFA.
“I do not show animals. I showed pigs when I was in 4H Club. About the time I started high school we got two dairy goats and my mom and I started making goats milk soap which has turned into a small business,” said Himes.
Himes said her mother has been a big influence in her life.
“My mom has been a big influence in my life. She has set an example of someone I would like to be like. She is close to God, always giving to others, very kind, and always can admit when she is wrong,” said Himes.
The VP offers some friendly advice to other students wanting to join FFA.
“Some advice I would give to students thinking about joining FFA is to get involved in every activity, CDE, and LDE (Career & Leadership Development Events) you can and find a contest you really enjoy. There are so many contests that push you out of your comfort zone you may really love,” said Himes.
This summer her plans include babysitting as well as continuing to work at a local tax office.
“I get the opportunity to go to OLC (Oklahoma Leadership Camp) and alumni camp this year which I am really excited about.
