Alva’s Kellen Bradford – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Northwest Technology Center

Throughout a person’s life, they will encounter people that will make an impact on them and play a role in the person they become. Some of them may only be in our lives for a short season, while others could be there for a lifetime. Kellen Bradford says that the person that had the biggest impact on him was someone he was very close to. “My grandpa was definitely my biggest role model,” he said. “He was a baseball, basketball, and football coach and he taught me how to be competitive and a good player. I would not be the athlete or the person I am today without him.”

Kellen is a junior at Alva High School, where he plays baseball for the Goldbugs. He says that being an example to the younger kids is something that he enjoys. “I like that people will look up to you more if you put in the effort to win,” he said. “But you also have to prepare yourself mentally.”

While a student at Alva, he is also in the Biomed program at Northwest Technology Center. He says that he enjoys the entire atmosphere of Northwest Tech and how it is helping him. “I like that the instructors are laid back and treat you like adults,” he said. “I also like that taking classes at tech stands out on your resume. It especially looks good if you took classes that are associated with the job you are applying for.”

Outside of sports and tech, Kellen is a member of the Student Council, the Future Farmers of America program, livestock judging, and livestock showing. As for his future career, Bradford has his eye on some big equipment. “I plan to work at John Deere as an Agricultural Technician and work on equipment and tractors.”

If someone is considering tech but just cannot make the final decision, Kellen has some advice. “I would say you should go to tech if they have something that interests you,” he said. “It is a great place to learn and prepare for your future.”
