Every person’s life is full of people that help shape them into who they will become, whether they know it or not. While some may have a bigger impact than others, they still play a part. Shelby Schafer says that out of all the people in her life, there is one person that has had the most impact.
“My biggest role model would be my mom, Jennifer,” she said. “She has always been there forever since she got me at three years old. She has shaped me into the person I am today, and I am so thankful for her.”
Shelby is a senior at Alva High School, where she is part of the cheer squad. She has been cheering all four years of high school and is a main or side base for stunting. While she has put in a lot of work and time to become the cheerleader she is today, Schafer says that there is more to being a successful cheerleader than just that.
“Leadership would have to be a big part of me being successful in cheer,” she stated. “Being there for my team always gives them someone to talk to when they are down. I love my cheer teammates and I am proud to be a part of such a great group.”
Along with her mother, Shelby says that there is one other person that has had a huge impact on her life.
“Dr. Halah Simon would be my favorite teacher,” she said. “She has taught me to not let others affect me in my life and to not care what others think. And most importantly, she has taught me to just be myself.”
Away from school cheer, Shelby is also part of a local choir.
“I am also involved in the Electric Gold Show choir here in Alva,” she said. “I am so glad to be a part of a great community in my hometown.”
