Northwest Tech offers a wide variety of programs that will allow students to get a head start on their future. Whether they want to begin to learn about a subject that they will learn more about in college or if they want to learn a trade so they can jump into the workforce right after graduation, Northwest Tech has the right program.
Kennan Clark is a 2022 graduate of Fairview High School and he says that he is learning more about the job that he currently has but he also has his plans for post-high school.
“I was working for a welder and wanted to gain more experience and obtain some certifications,” he said. “I am in the welding program at the Fairview Campus of Northwest Tech. I enjoy welding but now that I am done with high school, I plan to apply to the Oklahoma City Fire Department to be a full-time firefighter.”
Northwest Tech offers tours to high school students so they are able to get a first-hand look at any of the programs that interest them and that is where Clark was introduced to Northwest Tech.
“I first heard about tech through the sophomore tours they do each year,” he said. “Those tours give the younger kids a chance to see if they would like to attend tech. I feel like they are preparing me for my future career by teaching me to be a hard worker and to be able to do whatever is asked of me. If someone is thinking about tech but still on the fence, I would tell them to definitely give it a try because it is a lot of fun and you learn a lot.”
As a student at Fairview, Kennan played both football and baseball. He says he had a lot of fun playing both sports but that there was one moment that stood out.
“I really enjoyed the brotherhood between my teammates,” he said. “Whether it was the baseball field or the football field, we were right there supporting each other and working alongside each other. My most memorable moment of sports is beating Hooker to win the district championship in football.”
