Woodward’s Wyatt Pope – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by KS Tire

By Derrick Smith

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes program is a part of school campuses to help coaches and athletes grow in their relationship with Jesus. It has impacted countless lives throughout its 68 year history and one of those lives is Wyatt Pope.

“I have been a part of the Woodward FCA for four years,” he stated. “And I am currently the president of our chapter. FCA is important to me because it allows me to surround myself with other Christian athletes that continue to help me grow with my own walk with Christ.”

Pope is a member of the Boomer’s football, basketball, and baseball teams. He was Class 5A All-Star by Class at linebacker, second-team All-District at quarterback, K101 Classic Bowl Football All-Star, and Burlsworth High School Award Winner. He is also a standout in the classroom where he has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years, on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll for four years, has carried a 4.0 GPA for four years, and was the Rotary Student of the Month.

Athletics and academics are important to Wyatt’s success, but he also knows that his relationship with Christ is more important than either one of those. He says that while church has been a part of his life for as far back as he can remember, it became a more serious part in his early teenage years.
“I have grown up going to church twice a week every week of my entire life,” he said. “Before I had a relationship with Christ, I saw church as a chore and something I just had to go to. It wasn’t until my seventh-grade year at Falls Creek that I came to realize that without a relationship with Christ, nothing else matters. Since then, I have worked on my skills to share the Gospel as well grow in my own knowledge of the word of God.”
