BOYS
Coach: Derek Bishop
21-22 Record: 5-18
Bringing back some experience from last season combined with some new faces should allow the Medford Cardinals to bounce back after a tough season a year ago. Head coach Derek Bishop is looking forward to this season and how his team will perform. “Our team should be much improved as we return three starters from last season’s team,” he said. “We have also added some talented freshmen, and the depth of our bench is made up of guys who have had meaningful playing time. Our guys are more familiar with the system they will be playing in, so we look to be much more competitive this upcoming season.” Eli Gonzales (Sr.) will be one of the leaders on this year’s squad. He is an exceptional athlete that has very explosive with quick feet, quick hands, and great leaping ability. His ability to score in transition puts pressure on ballhandlers and he provides a much-needed spark for his team. Another impact player this season will be Austin Kalblinger (So.).
Austin is a 6-foot-3 forward who can stretch the floor and can score with his back to the basket. His development over the past two summers has been phenomenal. He has a great work ethic, good set of physical tools, and he loves to compete. Zach Hancock (Sr.) is a very hard working individual. He received all-conference honors last year as a junior. He does a great job blocking out, rebounding the basketball, and using his long limbs to alter and block shots. He is a young man who does not receive enough credit for the way he can impact a game. He has come a long way polishing up on his offensive game. Other players that will look to contribute this season are Austin Eckert (So.), Kingston Edwards (Fr.), Isaiah Lyons (Sr.), Jack Blubaugh (So.), Talon Duncan (Jr.), Gunnar Ebert (Fr.), Chase Abele (So.), Jesus Vargas (Sr.), and Peyton Smith (Sr.).
