Hooker’s Mady Swayze – Presented by FNB

High school athletes that decide to play a sport or be involved in an extracurricular activity can find themselves in a bit of a juggling act at times. Not only do they have to be at practice and meetings for their activity, but they also have to be able to complete their school work on time. Not to mention if they have a job that they work as well.

Mady Swayze is a senior at Hooker High School, where she plays basketball and track. She is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the student council. She says that while it can get a little tough at times, she would not change it.

“I don’t have a job but school and athletics alone is enough to try and balance,” she said. “Getting out of practice at six and trying to find time for homework and family does get difficult but over time you learn how to manage it.”

Being a successful athlete is something that Swayze is familiar with and knows what is required.

“There is a lot that goes into being the best I can be,” she said. “There is the unseen work, time, and dedication that are all important. I have seen the positive results of all that work. I was part of two state championship teams. The 2022 Track 4×4 and the 2022 Class 2A Girls Track State Champions.”

Throughout her life, Mady has had her life impacted by a few different people, all of whom have helped her become the person and athlete that she is today.

“My biggest influences are definitely my parents and coaches,” she said. “They have helped me along the way and given me the tools to become a better player. One of my teachers, Mrs. Hill has also been an important person in my life. She is more than just a teacher, she is always there for students when they need her the most.”

After she graduates from high school, Swayze plans to play basketball at the collegiate level, but where she will go is still undecided. She plans to major in pre-vet.
