Crescent’s Calen Cox – FFA Spotlight – Presented By Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

Calen Cox is a senior at Crescent High School where she is a member of the varsity track team and participates in the FFA. Cox said being on the track team is a blessing.

“I have been blessed with the ability to run fast and even more blessed to attend high school with three other just as fast girls. I can remember from a young age lining up on the football field to race the boys and me and Reydon Walker, one of my relay teammates, would both cross the finish line first. This sparked a love for running and winning at a very young age and that love has continued ever since,” said Cox.

Cox also serves as the vice president of the Crescent FFA chapter. Like many of her peers, Cox became involved in FFA while in middle school.

“I first got involved in FFA when I joined the 8th grade intro to agriculture class. My family was my number one encouragement to get involved. My mom was involved in FFA when she was in high school and my uncle is a past state FFA officer, so they were huge advocates for the program,” said Cox.

For Cox, there are many things she enjoys about being in FFA, and like track, she feels blessed to be part of the program.

“The thing I enjoy most about FFA is the people. I have been blessed through my FFA career to get to travel around the United States learning and advocating for agriculture. No matter if I am walking the streets of D.C. or preparing a steer for a livestock show, people in the FFA and agriculture industry are special to be around,” said Cox. “Competitively, I compete in the Food Science and Technology Career Development Event, give speeches, and show market steers.”

Cox has made the most of every opportunity given to her during her high school career.

“Through Crescent High school, I have taken every opportunity to fill my schedule! I am a member of the cheerleading team, basketball team, track and field team, student council, and also currently serve as the senior class vice president,” said Cox.

The senior offers some advice to anyone considering FFA.

“Do it! FFA truly is an organization that can be a home to anyone. I know it can come off as an organization just for the “farm kids,” but the opportunities and connections FFA has the potential to bring you are limitless.
