Kingfisher High School junior Kylie Hood is a member of the varsity golf team and a member of the FFA chapter at school. Hood first joined the FFA when she was in middle school.
“I joined FFA in 2020, my eighth-grade year. Before I joined, I had never heard of the FFA, but my dad mentioned that I might enjoy it and I really had nothing to lose, so I joined,” said Hood.
As a member of the chapter, Hood said she has enjoyed many of the opportunities the FFA has to offer even though she does not show animals.
“FFA has been a great opportunity to work on my oration and gain confidence in public speaking, but my favorite part is has to be making memories with my friends. This year, I do Parliamentary Procedure, Agricultural Communications, and Prepared Public Speaking,” said Hood.
Hood is involved in other activities at school while representing Kingfisher High School on the golf course this spring.
“Among golf and FFA, I help lead Jesus Club and I am a member of OHS and NHS,” said Hood.
As a member of the golf team, Hood said she loves the game of golf and being around her teammates.
“I love that golf is a mind game more than anything else. Staying calm and using strategy is the key to lowering your score. I love every one of my teammates. We have a smaller team, but we all work so well together. Raegan has been in the team with me the longest and being able to have friendly competition with her drives me to do better and practice harder,” said Hood.
The junior said she is looking forward to her future which will include going to Oklahoma State University and working towards her goal of becoming a lawyer. She said anyone interested in FFA should join.
“Don’t be nervous to join. Even if you believe that you’re going to be a good speaker or showman, you’ll get some valuable out of it, whether it’s memorization skills or lifelong friendships, the FFA is bound to offer anyone an invaluable experience,” said Hood. Hood closed with a comment about her father who plays many roles in her life.
“My dad has had a huge effect on my life. He’s a huge spiritual leader, he’s my golfing buddy, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him,” said Hood.
