Q&A with Deer Creek-Lamont’s Jael Lowery – Presented by Cowley College

Jael Lowery has been very successful in her first two years of cross country and track on the high school level at Deer Creek-Lamont High School.

Lowery has been a state qualifier both as a freshman and this past season as a sophomore. She competed in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs at the Class A Track & Field State Championships in May at Western Heights High School and also ran the 800 meter during the season.

Lowery, who is originally from California and will be transferring to Pond Creek-Hunter for the 2023-24 school year, finished second at the state meet in the 3200 with a time of 13:04.12. She was eighth in the 1600. She was named a Deer Creek-Lamont Outstanding Athlete.

“My top times have always been making my PR’s. It’s always a good feeling to have,” Lowery said.

VYPE: What goals do you have for next year in track? 

Jael: My goals for my junior year in track is to get my mile under six minutes and my two-mile under 12:30.

VYPE: How long have you participated in track? 

Jael: I started playing sports in the seventh grade.

VYPE: What do your teammates mean to you?

Jael: My teammates are very important to me because they are always there to support and help out with anything. 

VYPE: What do you love most about being a student-athlete at your school? 

Jael: I think getting to spend time with your friends and make memories during camps and stuff is what I love most about being a student-athlete.

VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? 

Jael: In my free time I usually just like to hangout with my boyfriend or friends.

VYPE: What are your strengths?

Jael: A good strength of mine is dedication. Once the sport season changes, I’m dedicated and focused on just sport and getting better at it.
