KINGFISHER YELLOWJACKETS
Coach: JEFF MYERS
8-4
OFFENSE
After a successful 2022 season, and with five returning starters, the Yellowjackets have some room to play with their offensive scheme. Head coach Jeff Myers said his team can line up in a variety of formations, including an empty package or 22 personnel, thanks to a dynamic mix of athletes. Paytun Burnham (6-1, 165, Jr.) is listed simply as an athlete on Kingfisher’s roster but can play quarterback, receiver, or corner. Dallen Barton (5-8, 150, Sr.), one of the team’s best returning athletes with experience handling varsity carries, will reprise his role as feature back for the Yellowjackets. Jake Reagan (6-2, 230, Sr.) will lend his big frame and explosive speed at the tight end position, where he thrived last season catching passes on routes toward the boundary and creating running lanes with his blocking. Kasen Blair (6-0, 170, So.) will be one of Kingfisher’s top returning receivers. Guards Landon Rempe (6-3, 315, Jr.) and Bert Haag (6-2, 280, Jr.) and their towering frames will provide protection for Burnham, Barton, and any other ball-carrier.
DEFENSE
Like its offense, Kingfisher’s defense returns five starters this year. It will base in multiple fronts to “keep the offense guessing,” but Myers and his staff will attempt to keep it as simple as possible for their players. Reagan, perhaps an even better defender than he is on offense, will return to his role as defensive end. An instinctive playmaker and punishing hitter, Reagan showcased his ability to shed blocks from opposing tackles and sniff out the ball. Also a standout two-way player, Barton will start at corner for the Yellowjackets, providing his reliable pass coverage to the defense. Tanner Parker (5-9, 210, Sr.) and Ethan Karcher (5-11, 185, Sr.) are the team’s top returning linebackers and will look to anchor the second level.
