Alva’s Olivia Cortright Athlete Spotlight Presented By Northwest Technology Center

Olivia Cortright is a student at the Alva Campus of Northwest Tech. She is in the Biomed program and she had heard about the programs offered at tech a couple of times and she knew it was the place for her.

“Our school took us to tech on many occasions growing up,” she said. “The advanced hands-on sciences intrigued me instantly. It’s an amazing way to really find out what you’d like to do for a career, because they provide a vast range of courses.”

She plans on pursuing a career in science and she says that her classes at tech are helping her determine which direction she wants to go.

“My classes at tech are really helping me narrow down what I would like to pursue,” she said. “The teachers are incredible. Once I graduate from high school, I plan on determining my specific path in life through my interest in science. Then I will dive into the necessary education for that career plan. I also plan on marrying my high school sweetheart, Aidan Jackson.”

Along with attending Northwest Tech, Cortright is a junior at Alva High School. She plays softball and runs track for the Goldbugs. Away from sports, she is involved in the Academic team and she serves as a student council representative.

As an athlete, there have been some impactful people in Olivia’s life, but she says that there is one that has helped her become the athlete she is today.

“An important influence for me personally was my old softball coach, Mr. Cawfeild,” she said. “He really showed me what a coach is capable of for a player. I knew I was capable, and he helped me perform to my best ability.”

Her time as an athlete has allowed Cortright the opportunity to have memorable moments during competition and away from it. She says that out of all of them, there is one that stands out the most.

“I think my favorite moment so far was when my best friend had just ran his heart out in the mile, making it to state, and collapsed into a hug with me.”
