Team chemistry plays an important role in the success of a cheerleading team. Whether the team has a lot of members or just a handful, the ability to get along and be a strong unit will go a long way. The Fairview cheer team is led by coaches Kaci Edwards, Nicole Martens, and Kari Robinson. Edwards says that their squad does a great job of collaborating.
“We work really well together,” Edwards said. “Our girls get along well and are always ready to work hard and stay on task.”
Senior captain, Taylor Haworth, enjoys cheering on her school to victory. She says that seeing the community support is excellent too.
“The reason I enjoy cheering for my school is to emphasize school spirit, to keep the audience entertained, and to help keep the players feeling supported and motivated throughout the game,” she said. “One thing I enjoy most about my team is our teamwork and how well we help each other reach our goals and push ourselves out of our comfort zone.”
It is not all hard work for the Yellowjackets’ cheer team. Coach Edwards says the squad recently attended an event in Stillwater that they all enjoyed.
“We did the Oklahoma State University Spirit Day this year which was a fun and new experience for our team,” she said. “We did a clinic in the training facility and learned a quick dance. Then we got to go to a game and perform on the field at halftime of an OSU game.”
Alexa Bouziden is also a senior captain on the team. She appreciates all of her teammates and loves working with them.
“I love that our team is so supportive of each other,” she said. “Everyone is always willing to help each other out and give constructive criticism so we can improve and become a better team. I also enjoy cheering for my school because I love that we help keep the crowd involved and keep the players motivated during their game.”
