Cherokee’s Kynlee Kolb – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Northwest Technology Center

By Derrick Smith

Kynlee Kolb is a junior at Cherokee High School, where she is a multisport athlete. She plays softball and runs track for the Chiefs. She says that she enjoys playing her sports, but for her, there are other things she loves too. “I love that my sports allow me to meet new people,” she said. That is something that I really like about competing. I also enjoy setting goals for myself and working hard to accomplish them.”

Throughout her life, Kolb has had people that have had an influence on her both as an athlete or a person. But she says that there are two people that have had a big impact on her. “My parents are the role models that I look up to the most,” she said. “They have always been there in my corner and supported me no matter what. I am thankful for them and know that i would not be where I am today without them.”

She has enjoyed some great moments as a student-athlete, but Kynlee says that there is one memory that stands out as her favorite.  “My highlight moment would have to be winning State in the shot put,” she stated. “Knowing that all of my hard work paid off and helped me reach my goal.”

Along with attending Cherokee, Kynlee is also a student at Northwest Technology Center. She is in the Biomed program and says that the program is helping her to get ready for her future. “My plan is to be a registered nurse,” she said. “The bio-med program is preparing me with real-life situations that I will have to deal with once I am out on my own.”

Kolb first heard about the programs at Northwest Tech a few years ago. That is when her dream to be a nurse began to grow. “We came and toured tech a few years ago,” she said. “The bio-med program really caught my eye and I am glad I decided on it. We do a lot of hands-on projects and the teacher is amazing. Tech is a really great place to learn and also make new friends.”
