Fairview’s Kelsie Doane – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Northwest Technology Center

By Derrick Smith

Trying to figure out what to do after high school can be something that is difficult for some people to decide. Fairview’s Kelsie Doane is a junior but she is using her high school years to prepare for her post-high school days by attending Northwest Technology Center. “After high school, I plan to attend Northwest Oklahoma State University and study forensics,” she said. “I have always been interested in lab work, criminology, and science and was super excited when I heard that our first assignment was a case file and we had to figure out how our victim died. It was very intriguing and got me hooked right away.”

Doane is in the BioMed program at Northwest Tech and says she is getting assistance with things she will need. “Tech is helping get me college ready with the courses I’m in, help with resumes, challenging classes, and experiences I wouldn’t get at regular school.”

As a student at Fairview, Kelsie is a member of the school’s cross country, basketball, and track teams. And while she enjoys sports, for her it is more about the competition.“I enjoy competing because of the competition, the want to get better, and getting to celebrate with my team after games.”

Along with playing sports, Doane is also a member of the National Honor Society, Future Farmers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and she also serves as class secretary.

Kelsie has a few role models in her life that she is thankful for and that helped her get to where she is today. “My parents are my biggest role models,” she said. “They have pushed me through everything I started and they are always helping me be the best that i can be. Also, my sister Kenzie. The highlight of my career has been getting to be on the same basketball team as her, which made the senior night really special and celebrating even better.”

Doane has some advice for anyone considering attending tech. “If you are considering tech you should definitely go do it,” she said. “It has been the best part of my day and I have learned so many different things that I never would have without the course that I am taking.”
