Playing sports since he was basically able to walk, Devin Dowty knows what it takes to be successful on and off the field.
“Being successful in life and sports just takes hard work and dedication,” said Devin. “Keeping your mind on the end goal and taking everything seriously.”
Devin is a senior at Alva High School who plays baseball and football for the school. In baseball he plays in the outfield mainly as a left fielder. For the football team he plays as a tight end and defensive end. He has been dedicated to his sports for quite awhile, he has played football for as long as he can remember and he started baseball in the eighth grade and has not taken his eye off the ball since.
For Devin knowing who to look up to has been a large part of keeping him on the straight and narrow.
“My grandpa Ray is my biggest influence because he has worked with me a lot for football anywhere from throwing me passes or helping me block and stuff like that,” Devin said.
Having great leadership on his teams has also been a big part in Devin being successful.
“Coach Baugh would also be one big influence for me because he has taught me most of what I know about baseball since I started,” said Devin.
Picking just one teacher as his favorite was impossible for the senior, so he picked two.
“Dr. Simon has taught me so much to do with school writing and even life skills; whereas Mr. Anderson has taught me all about the career I plan to go into and has been someone I want to look up to and follow,” Devin said.
Devin’s highlight football moment was a moment that actually did not go as planned.
“I have always wanted to catch a pass for a touchdown and my senior year I almost had a pick six but got stopped short by the quarterback, but that is my favorite moment in high school,” Devin said.
