Alva High School sophomore Kyler Martin who is currently in the middle of his basketball season as the teams Small Forward and Shooting Guard told VYPE in a recent interview “The love of the game motivates me to play and my parents, I want to make them proud”.
“There is not one person I don’t appreciate on the team, they all hold a role on the team” said Martin naming Daylon Malone and Aiden Kimberlin as two of his major supporters sharing “they push me to be the best I can be”. Of course, he also puts in “a lot of practice hard work in and out of the gym”.
Martin has learned a lot about life and the game from those around him including his favorite teacher. “Dr. Halah Simon she was the best. She was always there whenever I was having a bad day at school and overall she was a great person” and now Martin trys to do the same where he can. He has also learned through experience, namely games against the teams biggest rivals. “Chislom is the one team I enjoy beating. They are our rivals so it makes it feel good that we beat them” which pushes him to better himself.
Martin draws inspiration from Stephen Curry as he believes “Curry is an overall great player”. And hopes that “the younger generation looks up to me” the same way he has looked up to others throughout his endeavors.
