Alva’s Randee Perks – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By K&S Tire

For Alva High School sophomore Randee Perks, her position of post carries a lot of weight for the team. She spends most of her time in the paint – close to the basket – scoring baskets on offense, and protecting the rim on defense.

Randee is very familiar with the sport, having played basketball all the way since first grade.

Asked what Randee’s favorite part of basketball is, Randee proclaimed, “My favorite part is to build my teammates up with a positive attitude. Basketball can be tough mentally at times, and I do not let my teammates get down on themselves.”

Many memories are made, both on and off the court for a high school basketball player. When asked what a favorite memory of basketball has been, Randee stated, “Making my first points in our area game last year, with a spin post-move.”

There is one athlete that stands out to Randee, as someone that she looks up to the most Randee said, “Maddy Westbeld, University of Notre Dame basketball is the NCAA athlete I look up to the most. She’s an all-around player, and I just love to watch her play on the court.”

In terms of academics, the school subject that piques Randee’s interest the most. Randee stated, “Biology is my favorite subject this year. It definitely challenges me, but I find it so interesting because biology is a part of everything living.”

After high school, Randee plans on furthering her education. “I either plan on going to attend vo-tech to learn a trade, or attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University to obtain a teaching degree.”

There are many other activities that Randee participates in off the court. “I love being a part of the Electric Show Choir. I play soccer in the spring, and weightlifting has become very important in my life; I can challenge myself there, and see actual results. My family and I are involved in the outdoors, and I do a lot of hunting, fishing, and lake activities. I also have a golden retriever named Kevin and we play, and have him fetch, and go for walks- he is my favorite sidekick.”
