Baylee Oister wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a dentist. That is a dream she has had for as far back as she can remember. She is getting a head start on that as a high school student, thanks to Northwest Tech Center.
“I am in the Biomedical Sciences II program at Northwest Tech,” she said. “I heard about it through the dental assistants that work for my mom. Many of them came to the Dental Assisting program that the tech used to offer. I toured the campus during my sophomore year and I knew it was what I wanted to do.”
Oister enjoys everything about Northwest Tech and feels that they are doing a great job of making her feel equipped.
“My instructor is so kind and is always ready to help,” she said. “My course is teaching me all about science. Patient empathy skills, antibacterial resistance, first aid, and so so much more. I am gaining so much medical science that will help me with my future career.”
A senior at Cherokee High School, Oister participates in the 4-H chapter and she also enjoys competing in vocal competitions.
It is clear that her mother is someone that Baylee looks up to, but she says that along with her, there are others that have impacted her life.
“My biggest role model has definitely been my mother,” she said. “She has always pushed me to accomplish great things and has helped me see the importance of education and how beneficial it is in so many peoples lives. I also value my relationship with my Biomedical Sciences II instructor, Kayla Mead. She pushes me each and every day to accomplish great things, whether it’s to get an assignment done when I’m loosing motivation or to apply for scholarships that will greatly help me.
With her eyes on the future, Baylee has her post-high school years already planned out.
“I plan to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University and obtain a degree in Biology or Pre-dental,” she said. “If everything goes smoothly I plan to apply to The University of Oklahoma’s Dental College. If I am successful I hope to one day come back to my hometown and take over for my mother as the town’s Dentist.”
