OFFENSE

Last season could not have gone any better for the Yellowjackets, finishing with an undefeated record and the Class A state championship. As they head into this new season, head coach Robert Bernard is looking for his team to pick up where they left off. “We have a good core group returning from last year’s team and we look forward to what this season holds,” he said. Returning to play quarterback will be Jax Bernard. Last season saw him pass for 3,055 yards and 39 touchdowns while also rushing for 395 yards and nine scores. He will have a trio of targets on the outside to get the ball to. Wide receivers Reed Martens (6-4, 180, Sr.), Isaiah Burris (5-8, 165, Sr.), and Brant Strader (5-11, 175, Sr.) combined for 2,089 receiving yards with 25 touchdowns. Grant Church (5-11, 175, Jr.) contributed 424 yards on the ground and seven scores. Anchoring things on the offensive line will be center Boden Miller (5-11, 195, Jr.).

DEFENSE

Making big plays at linebacker this season will be Tegan Gilchrist (5-10, 185, Sr.) and Miller. Last year, Gilchrist ended the season with 125 tackles, four sacks, and one interception, while Miller had 85 tackles, four sacks, and an interception. The secondary will be a very experienced group for the Yellowjacket defense. Bryce Ramay (5-11, 165, Sr.), Mikka Wheeler (5-10, 150, Jr.), Burris, and Strader will work together to keep the opponent’s big plays at a minimum. As a group, they totaled 167 tackles and 12 interceptions.
