Athletes work hard as a team to be their best and reach the goals they have set for themselves. Kaden Pettus says that it is a great feeling when the team accomplishes something that they have worked hard for.
“Last season was great for us as a team,” Pettus said. “We made it to the second round of the area basketball tournament. It was the first time our school had been that far in 10 years. It was a really awesome experience.”
Pettus is a junior at Fairview High School. He plays football and basketball and runs track for the Yellowjackets. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, academic team, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the student council.
During his sports career, Kaden says he has had numerous people that have helped shape him into the person and the athlete that he is today. But he says that there are a couple that have had the biggest impact on him.
“My biggest influence is God,” he said. “I would not be where I am today without Him. Also, my coaches because they push me to do my very best every day. Another would have to be Troy Hutchison. He has taught me that I have to work hard for what I want most in life and not to overlook the little things.”
As a multi-sport athlete, Pettus has to do a lot of work to prepare for each season. On the basketball court, he plays forward and post, while on the football field, he is on the offensive and defensive lines. As a member of the track team, he throws the shot and discus. This variety of sports and positions require different training, but Kaden says that there is one thing in common with all of them.
“I have had to put in those extra hours in the gym,” he said. “No matter what season it is, I have to give one hundred percent effort all of the time.”
And the hard work had started to show for Pettus. He was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Canton Invitational Tournament. He was also named to the Three Rivers All-Conference team.
