Northwest Technology Center offers a wide variety of programs to students that can give them a head start on their career choice. Taylor Haworth is in the Cosmetology program at the Fairview campus and she says that beginning her career now is exactly what she is doing.
“I chose the Cosmetology program because I have always been interested in hair,” she said. “Also, it is a good way to help pay your way through college and make your own hours. Tech is preparing me for my future career because it is allowing me to graduate and be able to have my dream job for the rest of my life.”
A senior at Fairview High School, Haworth said that she first heard about what was offered at Northwest Tech a few years ago and she knew she wanted to attend.
“I first heard about the tech center from the sophomore tours we did,” she said. “I was interested in Cosmetology because I’ve always enjoyed doing hair.”
Taylor recommends tech to any student that is considering it. She already has her future plans laid out.
“I would say tech is a very good way to help teens get prepared for their future after high school,” she stated. “And it’s also a very good choice especially if you don’t want to go to college. Once I graduate high school, I plan to work in a salon in Okeene and at some point own my own salon.”
At Fairview, Haworth is a member of the Yellowjackets’ cheer team. She is also involved in the Future Farmers of America, the National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and she is also involved in her church.
There have been a number of people that have influenced Taylor’s life, but she says that there is one that has impacted her as a cheerleader.
“Jacklynn Holmes has been my biggest influence,” she said. “She always pushed me so hard to get new skills accomplished in competitive cheer.”
While she has made a lot of great memories with her cheer team, she has one moment that stands out as her favorite.
“The highlight of my cheer career so far has been our football team winning state last year and being on the sidelines cheering them on.”
