Fairview High School senior Whitney McMurphy is very active in school activities. McMurphy is a member of the yearbook staff as well as National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Health Occupations of America and FFA. She’s also taking Health Career courses at Northwest Technology Center.
“I am going to school to be an esthetician after graduating high school. I think that knowing all the different systems in the body will help me be really in tune when treating someone’s skin from the inside out,” said McMurphy. “Attending Northwest Tech has brought me so many different friendships and the staff is always so helpful when you need it and sometimes when you don’t even think you need it, they are always there to help.”
McMurphy has plans after she graduates from Fairview High School.
“I plan on attending Formation’s Institute for Cosmetology and Esthetics. After finishing the course, I plan to take the state board test to become a licensed esthetician,” said McMurphy. “Being an esthetician, I would be able to help people treat their problems from within and also manual treatments to help clear up any imperfections. Knowing all of the systems in the body will help me find a problem and know how to help them fix it.”
For McMurphy, having the opportunity to gain more knowledge in the Health Career field was a big reason she decided to attend NW Tech. From the instructors to the classes, McMurphy has enjoyed everything about NW Tech.
“No matter how much you think you can do it on your own, being a student at Northwest Tech has truly made me realize there are people out there to help make sure you’ve done it the right way,” said McMurphy.
Another area of interest for McMurphy is design and helping create projects for the yearbook.
“I really enjoy designing things. I took the computer business class at Northwest Tech before the Health class and I do a large portion of the designing projects for the yearbook staff,” said McMurphy.
