Ringwood’s Alec Anderson – FFA Spotlight – Presented by Farm Credit of Enid

Before entering the FFA in the eighth grade, Ringwood High School’s Alec Anderson was involved in the 4-H Club. He knew the FFA was in his future, and he was excited to join. “I got into FFA as soon I could which was my 8th grade year,” said Anderson. “My parents are huge agriculture and FFA people. Both of them showed livestock and gave speeches. My dad was even a state officer. So naturally they encouraged my siblings and I to experience all of the opportunities that the FFA has to offer.”

Following in his parents footsteps, Anderson jumped at every opportunity he could and now he is a junior in high school and enjoying everything FFA has to offer. “What I enjoy most about the FFA is the skills that you develop participating in the various events. You learn leadership skills, public speaking, people skills, teamwork and innumerable others,” said Anderson. “I am most active in livestock showing and public speaking, but I also do animals science quiz bowl, farm business management CDE and a little bit of livestock judging. I also try to attend as many FFA conferences and camps as I can.”

Showing his animals is rewarding, So Anderson has decided to take it to the next level. “I show sheep. As I finish my last two years of stock showing I plan to switch over to mainly crossbreds so that I can compete on the next level. Most of my success has been in minor breeds so the switch can be difficult,” Anderson said.

Also a member of the varsity football and baseball teams, Anderson always puts an emphasis on making good grades. The junior participates with the Academic Team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Beta Club and is a youth leader with his youth group. Anderson said his mother has been a big influence in his life. “My mom has been a huge influence in my life, especially in my FFA career. She has always stayed on top of my projects making sure that  everything’s the best it can be. Whether that’s late nights in the barn or listening to me give my speech countless time, she is always there,” said Anderson.

Anderson said he loves playing ball with his teammates at Ringwood. “We are truly a brotherhood,” said Anderson. We are always there for each other.”
