When a student reaches high school, they start thinking about their future and what they want to do with their life. There are numerous options available to them and some are even able to get a jump start while they are in high school. Breya Beck is a junior at Waynoka High School and she is taking classes at Northwest Technology Center in Alva to help with her future.
“I am in the Digital Design program at tech,” she said. “I chose digital design because I wanted to learn more about Adobe Photoshop and I see the value of being digitally literate with any career that my future may hold.”
Beck first heard about Northwest Tech from fellow students that attended and told her how fun it was. She also took tours during her eighth grad and sophomore years that helped her make the decision. She says it was a great decision.
“I would say that it is a great experience with amazing teachers who will help you with whatever you need,” she stated. “They also make learning fun and exciting.”
The things she is learning at tech will allow Breya to be at her best in the field she has chosen.
“My plans after highschool are to go to college and become a licensed counselor,” Beck said. “Tech will help me with my future career because I’ve learned how to design and make resumes, a website and informational sheets for my future office.”
As a student at Waynoka, Breya is a member of the basketball, fastpitch softball, and track teams. She is also involved in the Future Farmers of America program, where she serves as Treasurer and also shows pigs. She is a leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society, and she helps teach a Team Kids church class on Wednesday nights at her church.
Throughout her athletic career, Beck has enjoyed a lot of moments with her teammates, both on and off the court.
“My most memorable moments are the team bondings we have, carb nights, and scoring my career high in points so far, 33 points, this season. I also enjoy getting to play high school sports with my younger sister, Brylee.”
