Pioneer’s Robert Newberg – Hometown Hero 2022 – Presented By Chick-Fil-A in Enid

By Derrick Smith

High school student-athletes put in a lot of work to be the best that they can be at their sport of choice. But along with playing a sport, they are also representatives of their school, and how they carry themselves is a direct reflection of the school that they play for. Robert Newberg III, who has been named the 2022 Northwest Oklahoma Hometown Hero, says that he is proud of the town and school that he competes for.

“I love Pioneer,” he said. “Everyone knows who you are and what you do. It kind of goes along with being part of a small school. One thing about our school that stands out is that it is located in a field. I also like our community. Everyone is close to one another, and everyone is always willing to help each other out when needed. I am proud to be called a Hometown Hero. For me, that means that people look up to me and I respect that a lot. I love to be a role model to the younger generation. And hopefully, I will represent my community well when I am off at college doing new things.”

Robert is a senior at Pioneer High School, where he plays linebacker and tight end as a member of the football team. In the fall, he will be attending Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford where he will play football and pursue an engineering degree.

When he has down time, Newberg enjoys fishing, hunting, and just being outdoors. He is also a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

When he steps on the football field for the Mustangs, Robert knows that he needs to perform at his best so his team can be successful. The preparation that he puts in beforehand is what helps him perform at a high level.

“It takes a lot of work,” he said. “Countless hours of dedication and putting my body on the line every time I take the field is what helps me to be my best. Travis Kelce is an outstanding pro football player, and he is someone that I not only look up to but also enjoy following on social media.”
