VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you play?
Ian: I am a senior at Oklahoma Bible Academy. I am a member of the cross country, football, powerlifting, and track teams.
VYPE: What has it taken to be successful in your sports?
Ian: It has taken a lot of hard work and perseverance to overcome when things get tough. My biggest improvements have come in the weight room and in the track.
VYPE: Which teammate do you enjoy working against the most with in practice?
Ian: In football, I liked working with Jud Cheatham because he was a great leader on the field and he is the hardest worker in our team. I’ve had the pleasure of playing with him since 7th grade. In track, it would be Brendon Tubbs because he always pushes me and he actually makes running fun.
VYPE: What does it mean to you to represent your school and community when you play?
Ian: For me, it means representing Christ first and foremost because we have the word Bible written across our chests. Whatever conduct I do reflects my character and my character reflects Christ’s work in me. For my community, it means showing people that Enid-ites are built tough.
VYPE: What motivates you?
Ian: My biggest motivation, whether on or off the field, is to do everything to the glory of God. That way, no matter how I am feeling, I can do my best because my success doesn’t define me, only what I accomplish for God’s glory
VYPE: Who are some of your biggest influences or role models?
Ian: My biggest role models are probably my dad and my grandpa. They have worked very hard in their lives and made many sacrifices for my family. No matter what they’ve been through, they’ve always been there for me.
VYPE: What teacher has had the biggest impact on your life?
Ian: My dad has been my math teacher in school, but besides him, my favorite teacher has been my biology teacher Dr Lentz because he has a passion for teaching and he never holds back on teaching all the intricate parts of the lesson.
