OFFENSE
Two-time state champion coach Lloyd Welsh takes over at Chisholm. Welsh won gold balls at both nearby Pond Creek-Hunter and Fairview and after five years away from football is eager to be back on the sidelines. He inherits a Longhorns squad coming off their first losing season since 2011. Quarterback Bryce Patton (6-0, 145, Sr.) returns after throwing for just over 1,000 yards and eleven touchdowns. Welsh praised the off-season work of running back Caleb Griffith, who will see time somewhere in the offensive backfield alongside Grant Biggers (6-0, 190, Sr.). The offensive line features size and experience in the form of Kelly Lovely (6-0, 240, Sr.) and Garrett Smith (6-1, 240, Sr.).
DEFENSE
Many of the same faces will be featured on the defensive side of the ball. Nick Deterding (6-1, 150, Sr.) is the Longhorns top returning tackler, coming off a big season in the secondary. Deterding will also be a primary weapon at receiver. Caleb Griffith made 15 tackles for loss as a junior, second most on the team. Lucas Easler (6-0, 200, Jr.) has the size and strength to excel at middle linebacker. Easler will also find a home somewhere to be determined on offense. Coach Welsh was able to go through spring ball with his team and expects a turnout of around 50 players, which puts Chisholm in the upper tier for participation in Class 3A. All indications point to the Longhorns getting back on track and competing for a top spot in Class 2A-District 1.
