Covington Douglas Wildcats Boys Basketball Preview- Presented by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home

BOYS

Coach: Kenny Daugherty

21-22 Record: 14-9

The Wildcats are coming into the 2022-23 season with a new look and a new style of basketball than in previous years under head coach Kenny Daugherty.

“We will be a lot smaller than previous teams, but will be quicker. We will have more guys that can score from the perimeter,” said coach Daugherty. The offense will likely center around four-year starter Drake Daugherty (6-0, Sr.). Daugherty has been a role player for the last three seasons, but expect him to have a more active role in the offense this year. Daugherty averaged 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as a junior. Ford Smith (6-1, So.) has tremendous range and could have a breakout season after accounting for 4.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists as a freshman. Derrek Daugherty (6-1, Jr.) is not afraid of doing the dirty work according to coach Daugherty. As a sophomore he averaged 6.0 points with 8.0 rebounds per contest. Other players looking to make a contribution this season are Miquel Tarango (5-7, So.), Kade Griffin (6-0, Jr.), Clayton Smith (6-5, So.), Camden Thayer (5-7, So.), Blake Vogel (5-10, Sr.), Justice Hooten (5-7, So.), JayC Hooten (5- 10, Sr.), Gavin Hooten (5-10, Jr.), Micah Chartier (5-10, Fr.), Houston Robinson (5-5, Fr.), Connor Vandiver (6-1, Jr.), and Cody Flamm (5-9, Fr.).
