Every athlete can tell you about someone that has helped shape them into the athlete they are today. It could be a parent, a teammate, or a coach, but the impact that they made on the athlete is something that they will never forget.
Emma Spring is a senior at Drummond High School and she says that the person that has influenced her the most is one of her coaches. “Coach Sam Hill has had a big impact on my basketball career,” she said. “Without him and his practices, I would not be where I am today.”
Basketball and softball are the two sports that Spring competes in at Drummond. She is a pitcher on the softball field, and on the basketball court she plays shooting guard. Emma says she has been playing both sports since she was in the first grade.
Being successful is something that Emma works hard to do in everything that she does. She says that as an athlete, there are a few things that are really important. “It takes a lot to be successful in any sport,” she said. “You have to work hard, be dedicated, and stay committed to being the best you can be.”
Spring has made a lot of memories with her teammates throughout her career, both on and off the field. But out of all of them, she has one that is her favorite. “The highlight of my career would have to be one with my basketball team,” she said. “Our team made it to Area in the playoffs. It was a really great feeling to make it that far because our school had not done that in several years.”
Along with sports, Spring is also a member of the Future Farmers of America and Student Council.
She has sat through many teachers classes but says that there is one teacher that has made the biggest impact on her. “My favorite teacher is Mrs. Boulware,” Emma said. “She has taught our class several life lessons that we will carry on for the rest of our lives.”
