Athletics are a big part of Addyson Decker’s life. She is a senior at Enid High School, where she is a member of the competitive dance team, pom team, and golf team. She is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes group at her school.
“I started attending FCA with friends and loved it,” she said. “So I decided to join leadership and be a more significant part of what makes it all happen.”
No matter where she is, Decker is happy to share her faith because it has played such a big role in her life.
“My faith in Christ impacts my everyday life because I try to be intentional with everything that I do,” Addyson said. “I try to live by the phrase ‘you might be the only bible a person ever reads.’”
Throughout her life, Decker has had a number of people that have been impactful and helped her become the person that she is today.
“I really look up to my dance teacher and pom coach Melissa Painter,” she stated. “She is always facing every challenge head on and she doesn’t let the busy days overwhelm her. I also look up to my sister-in-law, Arin Smith. She is a college golfer and a member of student ministry, I strive to have her fire for sharing the word. My favorite teacher I have ever had was Mr. McKinney because I honestly feel like I learned life lessons just from watching how much he does for our school.”
There is a lot of time and dedication that goes into being a successful athlete, no matter what the sport. Decker has worked hard and has enjoyed some great times with her teams.
“I have never been a natural athlete, so I have to work extra hard if I want to get better at something,” she said. “I also started both of my sports later in life than most people which just meant that I needed to put a lot more extra time in. My favorite memory is when I went to state with my pom team for the first time this year, which was super memorable.”
