Second baseman Brock Slater has made a big impact on the diamond in his senior year for Enid.
During a Plainsmen seven-game winning streak in April, Slater had a 4-for-4 performance at the plate in Enid’s 16-8 win over Jones on April 15. He doubled twice, scored three runs and finished with four RBIs. On April 8, he had two hits in three trips, including a triple, and drove in three runs against Ponca City.
“Good leader….does the little things necessary to win games and is a great teammate,” Enid head coach Brad Gore said.
The Plainsmen earned a berth in the Class 6A State Tournament after defeating Jenks, 9-3, in a regional championship game. They had a 27-9 overall record entering the state tournament.
VYPE: What are your goals for this season?
Brock: The main goal is to win a state championship.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Brock: It has taught me how to be a leader and do things for the community.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?
Brock: Coach James, because he makes the class fun.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
Brock: My parents inspire me because they have a good work ethic and have inspired me to work hard.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Brock: There are quite a few older teammates that have left impressions on me. Watching them work on their game and showing me how to practice the right way.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?
Brock: Having the relationships with my teammates and coaches are the best part about being on a team.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
Brock: I would go to the Bahamas with all of my teammates.
VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?Brock: I like playing the game and have enjoyed playing it forever.
