Danielle Martinez…senior leader at Enid High School
By Jay Hoberecht
Danielle Martinez is an 18 year-old senior at Enid High School. She finds herself in that space where she is excited about the remaining senior year activities and even more excited about going off to the University of Oklahoma to become a surgeon.
Danielle has been involved with fast-pitch softball, girls’ golf manager, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and her church Youth Leadership Team at Open Door Church. EHS head softball coach Chris Jensen talked about Danielle saying, “She is a competitor with a great attitude and the ability to pick up her teammates.” He went on to explain that she was one of the team players that helped build the culture around Pacer softball. Danielle talked about how softball changed her perspective on building team chemistry and bonding. She has learned a lot from sports.
Danielle has a significant leadership position with FCA along-side her best friend Stella Stanley. She was honored at the 50th Oklahoma FCA All-State Event as an individual who is standing up to share her faith and influence others for Christ. This is the 70th Anniversary of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes that started in Oklahoma in 1954. That’s another article!
Danielle will be attending Extreme FCA Camp in Kingston, Oklahoma this year. It will be her second FCA camp experience. She plans to be a counselor next year. FCA sponsor Denom Sullivan said, “Danielle is a big part of our leadership team and she brings a great attitude every day.”
Danielle talked about her favorite EHS teacher, Mr. Wright. She liked his teaching techniques in two AP classes. She has turned to him for advice throughout high school and considers him a mentor.
On advice for a ninth grader entering high school, Danielle talked about being kind to others, getting involved and being open to opportunities at school. She also offered not to get too stressed about your friends.
Danielle Martinez is a young lady that has a plan and she is looking forward to embarking on that journey with her best friend!
