Myah Hessel remembers walking through the mall with her Dad and seeing a sign-up booth for soccer. Her Dad helped her sign up as a third grader. Now, she is playing out her dream of becoming a professional soccer player.
Myah is a 15-year-old freshman at Enid High School. She plays center/forward and starts for the Pacer soccer team. She loves to run and calls soccer “the perfect sport for me”. Her soccer coach, Tim LaVore, calls her a great kid that works hard and is a good student. What impresses him most is her humility. He said, “Myah is humble in her approach and confident in her decision making.” As a freshman, she is bigger, stronger and faster than most girls and has a “bright future”.
Myah admits to scoring many match winning goals but her favorite memories of her young career is playing with teammates in the hotel pools during travel team soccer.
Myah likes U.S. History/Government because she finds history very interesting. Her favorite teacher is Miss Evan, her English teacher, who tries to help students learn.
One of the important youth soccer coaches she had was Brian Hacker. At eleven, Hacker had a big impact on her life as both a player and being a better person. He helped Myah figure out things at a young age.
I asked Myah one of my favorite questions about what advice she might give a young person. She paused and talked about having to try a lot harder in high school. She added that you have to make good friends. Don’t hang around the wrong people. Grades are important and you have to “do good”. She mentioned two of her best friends Mallie and her sister Logan, whom she called a “built –in best friend”.
Myah Hessel says soccer is her whole life right now. She is definitely a talent to keep your eye on. We’ll hear more about Myah Hessel!
