KAYLEIGH EILAND…making a difference at Garber High School
By Jay Hoberecht
Kayleigh Eiland is a senior at Garber High School. She is making a difference through her involvement in both fast-pitch softball and basketball. She is also involved with FCA, FCCLA and Pep Club. Plus, she works weekends at Walmart where she has learned responsibility and time management.
Kayleigh got involved with softball and pitching with the encouragement of her Mom. Her Mom had a pitching career at Garber and went on to pitch at NWOSU. Kayleigh began playing softball in sixth grade but admittedly got serious about it in eighth grade when she started pitching. She credits her Mom with teaching her how to pitch.
Eiland is a four-time Skeltur All-Conference softball player. Kayleigh’s softball coach, Nikki Taylor, calls her a really good teammate. Taylor went on to say Kayleigh is more of a leader this year, makes big plays and can play at the next level.
Kayleigh loves sports and wants to be involved past high school. She thinks the best track for her is to be in sports medicine or physical therapy. She wants to make a difference through sports.
Her favorite teacher is Mary Sloat and her favorite subject is English. She smiled and added, “I just get it.”
Two of Kayleigh’s best memories are winning district in softball last year and going to the state basketball tournament semifinals as a freshman.Kayleigh Eiland is definitely making a difference at Garber High School this year!
