Garber High School sophomore, Summer Prince is a very active student. In the eighth grade she decided to join the local FFA chapter, but Prince had an established history of showing animals. “I have been involved with agriculture since I was born. I started showing swine when I was two years old and have continued to ever since. I have always looked forward to the day I could finally be officially in FFA my eighth grade year,” said Prince. “I have been raised on our family farm all my life. We run cattle, harvest wheat, and raise pigs. I have a passion for swine and absolutely love the industry. I knew by being involved in FFA that I could further my dreams of a career in the swine industry and that I would learn the skills to be successful. With my family’s deep ties to farming and my personal passion for swine and to make a difference in the world, I knew at a very young age, FFA would be for me.”
Today, Prince raises multiple breeds of show pigs, and she serves as a livestock judge amongst other things. “My favorite project I do is swine. I raise multiple breeds of show pigs and show pigs at all levels from local to national. I also judge livestock. I have loved the livestock industry and anything I can to be involved in it. I also have a small animal production in which I raise hypo-allergenic dogs by breeding poodles and poodle/crossbreed puppies. I have been raising puppies for three years. I have loved being able to serve my community and help lead others through FFA. I have always had a passion for serving and love being able to show others what a difference they can make,” said Prince.
Prince is a student-athlete at Garber where she participates with the varsity cheer squad and the fast and slow-pitch softball teams. She’s also involved in the 4-H Club, FCA, and Student Council as a class officer. FFA is a passion for Prince.
“My favorite thing in FFA is being a leader while being able to help others and make a difference as much as I can. Whether it is through raising money and buying for the Angel Tree, helping with the annual community dinner for Garber, or going to leadership camps such as Made for Excellence or Alumni Camp, I feel privileged to be a part of an organization that has led me to help others and grow myself,” said Prince.
