HENNESSEY EAGLES
Coach: MARK COX
7-4
OFFENSE
The goal for the Hennessey Eagles this season is to work to strengthen the team and to win as many games as possible. Coach Mark Cox says that this season, Hennessey is “installing a new offense and a new defense after some coaching staff changes, so the kids are working to learn a whole new system. We are returning some major contributors from last year’s team and are looking to have several other guys step up and be players for us as well.” With five offensive starters returning, the team is bound to be led to a successful season. Wide receivers Weston Smith (Sr.) and Kevin Trillo (Jr.) will team up to make impressive plays on the outside. At running back will be upperclassmen Zack Tillman (Sr.) and Jessin Hardin (Jr.). Blocking for the team will be offensive tackle Kason Copeland (Sr.). Quarterback Gunnar Holder (Jr.) is looking to use his skills to lead the team to success.
DEFENSE
For the upcoming season, the defense is looking to “adjust week-to-week based on what we feel like will give us the best chance to be successful against that opponent.” Defensive linemen Cam Griffin (Sr.) and Brayan Valdez (So.) will play a key role in a defensive aspect for the 2023 season. At linebacker, Jessin Hardin (Jr.) and Zack Tillman (Sr.) will look to dominate the backfield. Weston Smith, a “reliable, proven performer and a good leader” will be covering at cornerback, and Kason Copeland, “a solid leader and hard worker” will be making plays at defensive end.
