Hennessey’s Jakob Johns – Athlete Spotlight Presented by INTEGRIS Hennessey

By Scott Metz

Hennessey High School junior Jakob Johns is a multisport athlete. Jakob plays both baseball and football for the Hennessey Eagles. In baseball, Jakob is a pitcher, first baseman, and outfielder. Jakob could be considered a veteran at both sports having played baseball since he was “wearing diapers.” Jakob also started playing football at a young age, returning to the sport again during his sophomore year at Hennessey High School.

In terms of what motivates Jakob, he answered, “In the past it has been trying to win as many games for my brothers on the field but this year it has changed a little bit. My motivation this year is to do whatever I can to fulfill the goals one of my best friends Jarret Smith, in honor of his name.”

When asked what it means to represent his school and community, as a student athlete for Hennessey High School, Jakob stated, “It means a lot. I love playing for our community and school. I would not trade it for the world.”

Jakob has more than one person that he considers a role model. Jakob stated, “My role models are definitely my mom, brother, and coach. They all push me to be a better person, player, and they inspire me to be role model others. I thank them for that.

For Jakob, numerous teachers have stood out to him throughout his education. Jakob explained, “Not one teacher in particular stand out – they are all great, and are always there when I have any questions.”

Many memories are made in a student athlete’s career. In regards to his favorite memory thus far, Jakob stated, “It is hard to just choose one memory as I’ve had so many good ones. But overall, I think I would have to go with hitting a 3 run bomb to bring us back in the game against Davis last year.”

After graduating from high school, Jakob plans on pursuing higher education. Jakob explained, “After high school hopefully I will go on play college baseball somewhere, and see where life takes me from there.”
