MEDFORD CARDINALS

Coach: BLAKE LAMLE

5-6

OFFENSE

Another season of experience for players can be the difference between a winning or losing season. Head coach Blake Lamle returns of core group of players who bring experience to the field for the Cardinals. “We return five starters on both sides of the ball, with our offensive line coming back as juniors. They have started together since their freshman year. Also return a 1,000-yard rusher in Ethan Gonzales,” said coach Lamle. Gonzales (5-8, 150, So.) posted 1,175 yards on the ground last year as a freshman. With his experience growing and an offensive line that’s seasoned and matured, Gonzales could have a huge year even if he moves to quarterback. That offensive line features Thaddaeus Malchoff (6-3, 210, Jr.) and Bryer Curl (5-9, 245, Jr.). Both players are excellent blockers and move well for guards. Tight end Austin Kalblinger (6-3, 185, Jr.) will figure into both passing and run games for the Cardinals. Kingston Edwards (5-7, 145, So.) is one of the main targets in the passing game. “We will run multiple sets on offense. We will run the football out of pro, twins, flanker. Use play action pass. We return our line for the third year in a row. Need to find a running back as Ethan Gonzales will move to QB,” said Lamle.

DEFENSE

“We will base out of a 3-2. Looking to show much improvement with the core of the defense returning. We also bring up a huge class of freshmen of 12 players that will add huge amounts of depth,” said Lamle. Gonzales will bounce to defense and play safety while Edwards will occupy one of the corner positions. Malchoff and Kalblinger will move to defensive end. A pair of linebackers are key this season for the Cardinals. Lyam Kleyhnans (5-10, 180, Jr.) and Talon Duncan (5-11, 175, Sr.) will not only be called to stop the run, but they will need to show the ability to cover the pass. Something coach Lamle is confident they can handle. Lamle said Kleyhnans has been a top performer in the weight room this offseason and will likely see time at fullback.
