Medford’s Skylar Anderson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Integris Medford Family Clinic

By Derrick Smith

Skylar Anderson is a sophomore at Medford High School and she says that she has had a lot of role models in her life and she is thankful for each of them. But she knows that there are some that have had a greater impact on her as an athlete and as a person.

“Some of my biggest role models are my coaches and parents because they are always there pushing me to do my best,” she said. “Coach Kelley is the person who has taught me that if you want something bad enough you can always achieve it.”

Anderson is a multisport athlete for the Cardinals. She plays in the post for the basketball team, first base on the softball field, she throws the shot and disc on the track team, and is also a member of the golf team.

There is a lot of work that goes into athletes being successful. They spend countless hours practicing with their teammates and also put in extra hours outside of regular practice. Skylar says that while the work is tough at times, she keeps reminding herself of what she is working for.

“I always tell myself that the end result will be worth the work that I’m putting in now,” she said. “While that may not make the work any easier, it does help keep me focused on my goal.”

She has had some great moments during her career, but Skylar says that there is one achievement that she is the most proud of.

“The highlight of my career would have to be earning a starting spot on the varsity team during my freshman year,” she stated. “As an underclassman, it was an honor to have my abilities be recognized.”

Away from sports, Anderson is an officer in FCCLA, she is also a member of the National Honor Society, and serves as class president.
