OBA’s Chad Eastin – Teacher Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma Bible Academy

There can be a variety of reasons that someone decides to become an educator. For some, it can be a lifelong dream that they work hard to achieve, while others may have a teacher that impacts their life so much that they want to also give back to the next generation. But for Chad Eastin, his path was a little different.

“I’m not entirely sure what an eighteen year old me was thinking at the time I went off to college,” Eastin said. “I don’t remember having any epiphany or anything, it almost happened by default. Looking back as an adult however I see God’s sovereignty placing me in a position to influence so many young minds.”

Chad is in his seventh year as a teacher at Oklahoma Bible Academy where he teaches Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and seventh grade math.

As a student in the classroom, Chad learned from many outstanding teachers and he says that they all influenced him positively in some way.

“There are too many teachers that were important to me to mention really,” he said. “I can’t think of one that didn’t have some sort of impact on my life, but the one that piqued my interest in math in particular was Dr. Ben Marlin. He was never afraid to jump in and answer the hard questions. He also enjoyed talking about math and developed a love for math in me.”

Though he knows he is impacting the next generation, Eastin has a number of things that he enjoys about teaching.

“I like being a part of a community of parents, teachers, and administrators whose number one goal is to bring up Christian men and women who are equipped to engage and change the world,” he stated. “The occasional heckling, in good nature of course, from my students and shared laughs are also extremely rewarding.”

When he is not in the classroom, Chad enjoys spending time with his wife, Julie, and his two children, Mersadies and Ian. He also likes to restore old things, play disc golf, and just spend time in nature.
