There are several outstanding people that make a school district function and make the day-to-day things happen. Teachers, staff, and administrators are some of the first to come to mind, but there is another group that is often overlooked.
Greg Bledsoe is the building manager for Oklahoma Bible Academy, a job he has had for about eight and a half years. He was looking for a job and the position as the school opened and it seemed like a perfect fit.
“The school posted that they needed a janitor, so I went in and applied,” he said. “So I started as a janitor, but after a couple of years they changed my title to the building manager. I basically do whatever is needed. I mow the grass on the baseball field. We put new grass down last year, so I water and take care of that. I have a couple of other people that work with me and help me get all the stuff done.”
The job at OBA was a blessing in another sense as well. Greg and his wife Diana have been married for about 35 years. They raised their grandsons, Owen and Evan, both of whom attended OBA. Bledsoe says that working at the same school as the kids allowed him extra opportunities.
“One big benefit was being able to attend my grandson’s events,” he said. “As an employee, I was able to be there and be a grandpa and watch them in sports, band, chorus, or anything else. My favorite memory was being able to be there and be a part of their lives.”
James Cheatham, who is the Dean of Students and Athletics at OBA, says Bledsoe is an outstanding guy and employee who does a great job at what he does.
“Mr. Bledsoe is a true behind the scenes servant,” Cheatham said. “He seeks no glory or recognition in making sure all the undesirable tasks are completed. He is a true team player, and we couldn’t maintain a safe and efficient operational process without him.”
