Okeene High School senior Kyle Lewis is a member of the varsity baseball team where he plays third base and pitches when called upon. Lewis said he loves the brotherhood of baseball and being around his teammates.
“The thing I love most about my teammates is how we all mesh together like a brotherhood, and we all keep each accountable.”
Something else Lewis loves is FFA. Lewis joined FFA while in junior high thanks to the encouragement of an influential family member.
“I first got involved in FFA when I joined in the 8th grade, I had already been previously showing pigs through 4-H but joining FFA opened up so many more opportunities. I would say my dad was the one who encouraged me to get involved with the FFA since he showed cattle when he was in high school,” said Lewis.
Lewis has made the most of every opportunity in FFA. From showing livestock to mechanics, Lewis said FFA has something for everyone.
“What I enjoy most about being in the FFA is all the countless possibilities and pathways you can take in the FFA, whether it be livestock showing or judging, Ag mechanics, or food science. I would also say the many lifelong friendships you will make and the connections you will acquire through the FFA. I am involved in showing pigs and the Ag mechanics team. I show two gilts and three barrows,” said Lewis.
Also a member of FCA, FCCLA, National Honor Society, and TAG, Lewis offered this advice to anyone interested in FFA.
“Advice I would give someone considering going the FFA would be to go in with an open mind, be willing to try new things that you aren’t familiar with, there is something for everybody in the FFA, you just have to find that thing,” said Lewis.
The senior plans to attend Oklahoma State University next fall and major in animal science.
