At a young age, everyone has someone that they look up to as a role model. For some it could be a family member or someone they are close to, while others may look up to celebrities or famous athletes. Lawson Morgan says that the role models he has for his life have made a big influence on him and helped shape him into the person he is today.
“My biggest influences have been my parents,” he said. “They’ve worked hard to provide me with a Christian education from a young age and for that I am forever grateful. A teacher who has had the biggest impact on me is Mr. Eastin. He’s a wonderful example of how a Christian man should walk in the faith and has been someone I’ve looked up to since I arrived at OBA.”
Lawson is a senior at Oklahoma Bible Academy, where he plays basketball and baseball. He also serves as the senior class president.
While there are days when things get tough or he just does not feel like putting in the time, Morgan reminds himself of why he plays.
“The scripture Colossians 3:23 motivates me to work hard,” he said. “It says ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters’. Coach Mendenhall also does an amazing job motivating us prior to games.”
During his time of playing sports, Lawson has made some great memories with his teammates. But as he looks back, there is one that stands out as his favorite.
“I think the highlight of my sports career would probably be our basketball team winning district championships last year and advancing to the Area tournament,” he recalled. “I would say the biggest factor to being successful in our sports is putting trust in what our coaches teach us.”
Whenever he is on the court or the field, Lawson knows that he is playing for more than just himself.
“Representing my school to me means displaying the love of Christ to all we come in contact with, whether it be through our actions or words.”
